"The outrage of hunger amidst plenty will never be solved by experts somewhere.
It will only be solved when people like you and me decide to act." -Anonymous
Empty Bowls is a project to provide support for food banks, soup kitchens, and other organizations that fight hunger. Combining art with outreach, soup with service, neighbors helping neighbors fight hunger; that is the basic premise of the Empty Bowls Project. Indeed, the project brings the idea of giving and receiving to a whole new level. The bowl itself symbolizes cupped hands, a gesture of giving. The basic idea for Empty Bowls is simple. Participants create ceramic bowls, then serve a simple meal of soup and bread. Guests choose a bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder that there are always Empty Bowls in the world.
So far in 2008 SACA has provided over 1,000 bowls and a number of items for silent auctions in support of Empty Bowl events in the Greater Tucson Area. SACA could not have supported this worthy community activity without the generous donation and support of Marjon Ceramics.
